Blazers Take Down Blue Jays

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College women's soccer team won their fifth straight game on Wednesday night. The Blazers defeated University of Saint Joseph, CT 1-0 on Leary Field in GNAC action. This was the first meeting between the Blazers and the Blue Jays in over a decade.

THE BASICS:

SCORE: Elms 1, USJ 0

RECORDS: Elms (7-4-1, 6-3-0 GNAC), University of Saint Joseph (6-2-1, 3-2-1 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Blazers kicked things off with the first shot of the match at the 2 minute mark by Morgan Foucault (Putnam, CT). With the first half being scoreless there were still 7 combined shots taken with Elms having the majority of 4 shots.

The Blazers capitalized on a mistake from the USJ defense early in the second half, as senior forward Morgan Foucault made a great juke just outside the box before sending a strike past USJ goalie, Victoria Schaffner for the lone goal of the match. In the last three minutes USJ made their final push with a shot on goal saved by Angela Picheo (Wood-Ridge, N.J.).

Kayla Pasquel (North Attleboro, MA) played 90 minutes and was fantastic in the middle of the field.

Kelly Malheiro (Long Island, NY) was a force on the outside.

Paige Silva (Swansea, MA) was amazing on the back-line, she was our player of the match.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Foucault scored the game winning goal for the Blazers
