Delaney’s Goal Secures Milbier's 100th Win

Chicopee, MA – The Elms College women's soccer team won their fourth straight game on Saturday afternoon. The Blazers defeated Anna Maria College 1-0 on Leary Field in GNAC action. The win also marks the 100th career win for head coach Sean Milbier.

Milber is in his 9th season at the helm of the Blazers and has an overall record of (100-52-11) for a (65.79) winning percentage. Milber led the Blazers to a New England Collegiate Conference (NECC) championship in 2016 and a berth in the NCAA DIII tournament. Milbier was also selected NECC coach of the year in 2016 by his peers.

When asked about picking up his 100th win, Milbier had this to say "I'm very proud of this accomplishment and beyond thankful for all of those who have been part of these 100 wins. A big thank you to all my players, former and present, and another big thank you for the amazing support I get from my fellow coaches, administrators, and especially my amazing family - my amazing wife, Sarah, and my beautiful daughters, Maddie and Sofia"

RECORDS: Elms (6-4-1, 5-3 GNAC) | Anna Maria (1-8-1, 0-5-1 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The first half saw back and forth action with both teams getting quality chances. The Amcats had their best chance in the 33rd min, however sophomore keeper Hannah DelGuidice (Oakland, ME) was able to make a big save for the Blazers and keep the game scoreless.

With time dwindling down in the half the Blazers worked the ball down the field, Elaina Vilar (Watertown, CT) was able to dribble past an AMC defender and serve a cross to the top of the 18 yard box, Gabby Delaney (Chicopee, MA) was then able to turn and fire off a perfect shot over the stretched arms of the Amcats keeper and into the back of the net with only 2 minutes remaining in the half.

The second half saw more back and forth action with a lot of physical play mixed in. Neither team was able to find a goal, sending the Blazers to a 1-0 win.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Vilar and Kelly Malheiro (Long Island, NY) had three shots apiece.

FROM THE DESK OF COACH MILBIER:
