Blazers Come up Short at St. Joseph’s ME

STANDISH, ME –  The Elms College women's soccer team dropped a GNAC road match at St. Joseph's ME by a score of 5-1 on Saturday afternoon. 

THE BASICS:

SCORE: ELMS 1 - SJM 5

RECORDS: ELMS (2-2-1) - SJM (2-2)

 

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The home side struck first in the 13th minute, when a Monk's player collected a quick throw in from into the blazer 18 and found the back of the net. SJM made it 2-0 in the 25th minute off a great shot from 24 yards out. The 2-0 score held until the 48th minute, until the home side added another tally, pushing their lead to 3-0.

The Blazers found the scoreboard at the 64:12 mark, when Abby Goodnow (Chesterfield, MA) ripped a shot from the top of the 18 into the side netting off a pass from Kelly Malheiro (Centereach, N.Y.).

The Monks capped the scoring in the 69th minute, securing the 5-1 win.

 

TEAM STATS:

  • Saint Joseph's held the lead in shots (16-7), shots on goal (13-6), and corner kicks (5-2) in the triumph.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Goodnow and Kayla Pasquel (North Attleboro, MA) had 2 shots on goal for the Blazers
  • Hannah DelGuidice (Oakland, ME) made 5 saves in net for Elms College

 

UP NEXT:

Elms will travel to Colby-Sawyer College on Wednesday in a GNAC tilt slated to begin at 3:00 PM.
