Blazers Drop Season Opener to Suffolk Rams

Chicopee, MA – The Elms Blazers women's soccer team walked away from a tough battle against the Suffolk Rams yesterday afternoon, ending in a 1-0 loss.

THE BASICS:

SCORE: Suffolk 1 | Elms 0
RECORDS: Suffolk (1-0-0) | Elms (0-1-0)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

It took a while for the teams to catch their barring after nearly two years away from collegiate competition. The first and best look of the first set of 45 minutes came off the boot of the Rams. Zeros remained on either side of the scoreboard at the conclusion of the first frame.

Suffolks, Aislinn Servaes brought the crowd to its feet at the 83rd minute mark. The first year out ran a pair of Elms defenders down the left side of the field for a one-on-one with Angela Picheo. Servaes had a tough angle from inside the 10-yard line, which paid off in Picheo's favor, as the opponent's gloves gobbled up the ball and things stayed scoreless as the end of regulation loomed.

After Servaes near strike momentum remained in the Rams favor as the clock dwindled. Rams again, sent a shot to the cage that Picheo turned aside to set up another Suffolk corner try that was off the mark.

In the 88th minute, Servaes dribbled into the box and slipped a pass over to her teammate, who finished in the top right corner of the net to eliminate the shutout.

Elms raced against time to come back. The Blazers had a chance too when Hailey Magierowski 13 seconds after Suffolk scored, but it went wide left and the Rams were victorious at the final whistle.
