Women's Lacrosse Lose a Tough Divisional Game to the Blue Jays

CHICOPEE, MA - The Elms College Women's Lacrosse team traveled to play the University of Saint Joseph (CT) in conference action Saturday afternoon.

BASICS
Score: Elms College 7 | University of Saint Joseph (CT) 18
Records: Blazers 4-7, 4-6 (GNAC) | Blue Jays  11-4, 9-1 (GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Both teams started off the game strongly, and Elms countered every USJ goal early. Sophomore Jackie Cronin (Smithtown, NY) assisted on both of senior Elise Paier's (West Springfield, MA) two early goals to keep the game tied, and junior Greta Frankwicz (Cape Elizabeth, ME) and first-year Rachel Dort (Chicopee, MA) helped give the Blazers a 4-3 lead. Elms would hold this lead throughout the first quarter and had a couple of chances to extend their lead but were unable to. USJ responded by scoring five straight goals to begin the second quarter, giving the Blue Jays a multi-goal lead. Paier responded by scoring yet another goal for the Blazers, but the Jays countered with two goals of their own to go into halftime up 11-5. Elms could do nothing but watch the Blue Jays continue their offensive explosion, as they scored six more goals in the third. Cronin picked up another assist on Frankwicz's second goal of the day to make the score 16-6. Without enough defense to protect the net, the Blazers had a hard time getting back in the game. Paier added her third goal of the game for the Blazers, but USJ scored two more goals in the fourth quarter and shut down the Elms offense, resulting in a Blue Jays 18-7 win.
