Women’s Lacrosse Out Swam By Simmons

CHICOPEE, MA - The Elms College Women's Lacrosse team hosted Simmons University in conference action at Leary Field Tuesday evening.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Simmons would put themselves on the scoreboard first after a goal in the first minute of play, but seconds later, sophomore Jackie Cronin (Smithtown, NY) would find an open senior Elisa Paier (West Springfield, MA) for the Blazers first goal. The Sharks would go on to score two more goals, followed by a goal by junior Greta Frankwicz (Cape Elizabeth, ME) to bring the score 2-3. Simmons would add an additional two goals before the end of the first quarter. The Sharks would start the second quarter with two more goals. First-year Rachel Dort (Chicopee, MA) Elms' next goal to bring the score to 3-7. Simmons would then close out the first half 3-10.

As the second half began, the Sharks would score four-straight goals to increase their lead 3-14. The Blazers would then respond with a goal from Cronin, followed by making one goal to end the third quarter. Simmons would open up the fourth quarter with three more goals. Moments later, the Sharks would receive three green cards, which would give the Blazers an offensive advantage and would capitalize on it with a second goal from Paier. Simmons would score two more goals and win the contest 5-20.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Paier would lead the Blazers with two goals.

  • Senior Gianna Liquori (East Longmeadow, MA) would save 12 of the 32 shots she would face during the matchup along with eight ground balls.
