Women's Lacrosse Defeats Anna Maria for First Win of the Season

CHICOPEE, MA - The Elms College Women's Lacrosse team would host Anna Maria College in conference action at Leary Field on a freezing rainy Saturday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Sophomore Jackie Cronin (Smithtown, NY) would score the game's first goal in the opening 16-seconds. Anna Maria would respond with two goals of their own shortly after to take the lead, but senior Elise Paier (West Springfield, MA) would score two more goals to take back the lead for the Blazers. Early in the second quarter, first-year Rachel Dort (Chicopee, MA) and junior Greta Frankwicz (Cape Elizabeth, ME) would both score to extend the Elms' lead to 5-2. The AMCats would score shortly after, but Dort and Cronin would both score their second goals of the game. Anna Maria would score once more with under a minute left in the half. As the teams headed into their locker rooms to warm up, the Blazers would lead the AMCats 7-4.

As the second half began, Paier would add her third and final goal to the scoresheet to extend the Elms lead, and was followed by a Anna Maria goal minutes later. The fourth quarter would see the AMCats score back-to-back goals and bring the score to 8-7. But Cronin and Dort would score their third and final goals to secure the Blazers' first victory of the season.

  • Senior Gianna Liquori (East Longmeadow, MA) would save 17 of the 24 shots she would face during the matchup.
