Women's Basketball Fall to Cadets

CHICOPEE, MA - The Elms College Women's Basketball team lost a conference matchup against Norwich University on the road Tuesday night.

BASICS
Score: Elms College 57 | Norwich University 68
Records: Blazers (9-11, 3-6 GNAC) | Cadets (8-11, 2-7 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Blazers came out strong on offense thanks to a hot start from senior Rahmia Johnston (Trumbull, CT) and first-year Jade Lewis (Orlando, FL). The duo hit three-points and jump shots at will, allowing Elms to take an early lead. Norwich threatened to tie the game early, but the Blazer defense remained strong, limiting the Cadets from getting second chance points. Late in the first quarter, Norwich broke through, taking the lead and holding it until the second quarter. Elms struggled to score early on in the second quarter as Norwich extended their lead to 9. Graduate student Julianne Liebow got to the free throw line to give the Blazers some much needed points, but Norwich went into the half up 36-26, taking advantage of the Blazers struggles on offense.

Johnston and Liebow teamed up to hit a couple of three pointers early on in the third quarter to get Elms back in the game, cutting the Norwich lead to five points. Lewis chipped in some points of her own, as she got the basket with ease. Both teams went back and forth, exchanging leads late in the quarter. Norwich pulled away and led by 5 going into the fourth. Sophomore Talia Uribe (South Hadley, MA) contributed some much needed free throws to tie the game again in the fourth quarter, and Liebow continued to hit jump shots for Elms. Late in the quarter, Elms had trouble scoring again, allowing Norwich to run away with the lead and the 68-57 win, handing the Blazers their fourth straight loss.
