Big Second Half Propels Blazers to Conference Win

Chicopee, MA - The Elms College Women's Basketball Team won a conference matchup against Dean College at home on Saturday afternoon.

How it happened:

In a conference matchup against Dean, the Blazers looked to avenge their early loss in the week. The Blazers were more balanced on the offensive end, as 5 different players contributed baskets to put the Blazers up by 7 after the first quarter. Rahmia Johnston and Brianna Metellus helped Elms on the offensive end in the second quarter, allowing the Blazers to extend their lead against Dean. The Bulldogs continued to hang around though, repeatedly cutting into the Elms lead. Elms remained strong on defense and limited Dean to 23 points in the first half. At halftime, the Blazers led 32-23

            In the third quarter, Elms opened up a huge lead by baskets from Metellus, Johnston, and Talia Uribe, who played tough inside and got to the foul line. The Blazers extended their lead out to 20 midway through the third quarter, and a couple of baskets by Jade Lewis pushed the lead out even more. Stellar defense by Elms held Dean to 6 points during the third quarter, giving the Blazers control of the game. During the fourth, the Blazers continued to extend their lead to 33 points, comfortably winning 75-42.
