How it happened

At home, the Blazers took on the Fitchburg State Falcons on Monday night. Julianne Lebow scored 7 early points to help the Blazers take an early lead. Contributions by Talia Uribe and Rahmia Johnston extended the Elms lead. The Falcons didn't let Elms deter them, and cut the deficit to 20-15 after the first quarter thanks to some late baskets with under two minutes to go. At the beginning of the second quarter, Brianna Metellus scored 8 straight points to extend the Blazers lead. The Blazers defense continued to play strong, limiting the Falcons scoring opportunities inside. The Blazers went into halftime with a 26-23 lead, only allowing 8 points in the second quarter.

At the beginning of the third quarter, the Falcons came back, cutting the deficit to single digits, but a couple of baskets by Jade Lewis kept the lead comfortable for the Blazers. Jenny Gorski came off the bench for the players and played some tough basketball, contributing points and rebounds to keep the Blazers in the lead. Elms went into the fourth quarter with a 54-36 lead. Fitchburg cut the deficit to 12 in the fourth quarter off a mini run by Mikayler Patch, but didn't get much closer, as a balanced scoring attack by the Blazers kept the Falcons at bay. With some late free throws and closing time defense, Elms walked out Monday night with a 72-61 win.
