How it happened:

The Wildcats got an early jump on a lead over the Blazers with a 10-2 point lead four and a half minutes into the first quarter. With a sprinkle of baskets from multiple Blazers in the lineup they were able to close the gap on the Wildcats and hung in tough for the final minutes of the first. With a crisp 6 points beyond the arc from Sadie Hunt (Sandwich, MA) and 7 from Rahmia Johnston (Trumbull, CT) the Blazers were able to keep up with JWU. IT wasn't until the final minutes of the first half did the Wildcats pull away and build a lead of fifteen points heading into the intermission. JWU 46-31 at the half.

In the second half the Blazers continued to hit shots but were unable to slow the Wildcats on the defensive end. Johnson & Wales' center Mikayla Caruso put up 26 points with 19 rebounds from inside the paint, making it a challenge for the Blazers to stay with the Wildcats pace of play. Unable to find success within the lanes the Blazers fell short to the Wildcats closing out the opening night of conference play with a final score 77-62.
