How it Happened

On the second night of a back to back game week, the Blazers traveled to Wellesley College. The game went back and forth early, as both sides didn't want to give up the lead. A team of Blazers scored early for Elms, but at the end of the first quarter, Wellesley had a 15-10 lead. Wellesley pushed their lead out to 14 at the beginning of the second quarter, but veterans Brianna Metellus and Rahmia Johnston hit a pair of shots to close the gap. The Blazers struggled to score late in the second quarter, and went into halftime down 33-21.

At the beginning of the third quarter, Julianne Lebow, Johnston, and Metellus continued the scoring for Elms, cutting the deficit to five. Wellesley started to pull away with the lead, but Johnston wouldn't let Elms go down without a fight. She scored nine of her 33 points late in the third quarter to give the Blazers a chance down 50-41 going into the fourth quarter. The Blazers cut the deficit to three towards the end of the fourth quarter, as their defense held strong, limiting Wellesley to consistently score. After a late Wellesley three, Elms responded with a three from Sadie Hunt and a pair of free throws from Johnston. Within reach, Elms failed to score again, falling to Wellesley 65-58.
