Blazers Edge Gordon for Third Straight Win

WENHAM, MA - The Elms College Women's Basketball team consistently posted 20 points in each quarter lifting them over the Fighting Scots to give them the non-conference win, final score 89-85.

Friday night, the Blazers took on Gordon College in Game 1 of a two day tournament. The game was close early on, as both teams matched up well against each other. Julianne Lebow scored two three pointers early to keep the Blazers in the game, as Gordon threatened to pull away early. Gordon extended their lead to 10 at the end of the period, but a late Elms scoring run in which Lebow hit some crucial shots cut the Gordon lead to 1. In the second quarter, Elms kept it close with Gordon again, as this time Lebow had help from Jade Lewis, who contributed some scoring of her own. Brianna Metellus made a three with 3 minutes left, tying the game at 40. The Blazers took the lead on another made shot by Metellus and two shots by Rahmia Johnston to take a 49-45 lead into half.

At the beginning of the second half the Blazers started to pull away from Gordon. They extended the lead to as much as 11, but Gordon came all the way back to take a 65-64 lead. Elms continued to battle, and two baskets by Lebow and Adalena Francis tied the game at 69 heading into the fourth. The game remained tight in the fourth, as both sides had difficulty scoring the ball due to the stellar defense. Lewis put the Blazers up 4 with four and a half minutes to go. Johnston and Metellus showed their veteran prowess by going on a run between themselves, putting the Blazers up 84-75. Gordon couldn't get any closer than 5 after that, and late free throws by Metellus and Lebow gave the Blazers their third straight win 89-85.
