Women's Basketball Wrap Up Season in Monks Country

STANDISH, ME- The Women Blazers finish their season on the road at Saint Joseph's College of Maine where they faced the Monks for a conference match up, 71-58 for the final.

How it Happened

First year Mikayler Patch (North Attleboro, MA) recorded 13 points and 5 rebounds Saturday afternoon against the Monks. While Junior guard Rahmia Johnston (Trumbull, CT) recorded 15 points and first year Kayla Jackson (Saugus, MA) went on to attain 10 boards for the Blazers.

The Blazers kicked off the game out rebounding the Monks 10-6 in the first quarter, with Patch and Brianna Metellus (Springfield, MA) both recording 3 boards apeice. Unable to out score the Saint Joseph's Monks in the first quarter falling 21-8.

The Blazers were able to hold the Monk Women to only 19 more points in the second quarter, almost doubling their own score by putting up 12 points in the second 10 minutes. The Lightning was able to shoot 3-3 from the foul line going 100%, with all three from Patch. The Blazers shot 50% from the field while the Monks only went 31.3%. The Monks hold onto their lead heading into the half, 40-20.

In the third quarter the Monks went on to go 9-15 from the field putting up 23 points over the Blazers 11. The Monks were able to capitalize off of foul shots and within the 3pt-line to favor their lead against the Blazers. Heading into the final quarter the Saint Joseph's Monks a generous lead over the Blazers, 63-31.

In the final 10 minutes the Blazers were able to flip the script and out score the Monks 20-15, Patch managed 6 of those points for the Lightning going 2-2 from the foul line. Due to the previous quarters the Blazers were unable to make a full comeback and fell to the Saint Joseph's College of Maine Monks 78-51 for the final.

To finish out the 2022-23 season the Women's Basketball team had a final overall record of 9-16, going 4-14 in the Great Northeast Athletic Conference. The Blazers ended their season tonight (Saturday, February 18th) as they will not be participating in the GNAC 2023 Tournament.
