Women's Basketball Bested by Falcons

NEW HAVEN, CT- The Elms College Women's Basketball team was unable to takedown the Albertus Magnus Falcons in their final conference face off of the season; the Blazers fell to a final of 73-58.

How it happened 

Junior guard Rahmia Johnston (Trumbull, CT) recorded 11 points and 12 rebounds against the Falcons while first year Kayla Jackson (Saugus, MA) went on to put up 18 points and 7 boards for the Blazers.

The Blazers kicked off the game shooting 100% from the foul line knocking down 3-3, with two of them from Jackson. Unable to out score the Albertus Women in the first quarter falling 18-13, the Blazers were able to dominate them in the paint recordng 13 boards, 10 of them on their defensive end. The Falcons would only be able to come up with 6 rebounds in the first quarter. 

The Falcons held the Elms Women to only 13 more points again in the second quarter but were unable to deny the Blazers of rebounds. Albertus would come up short 10-6 in boards as the Blazers continued to control their defensive paint. Soliyana Asfaw led the stat sheet for the second quarter recording 5 points, 2 rebounds, 1 assist and 1 steal. The Falcons would continue to add to their lead, 37- 26 heading into the half.

In the third quarter the Albertus Women went on to go 8-18 from the field putting up 22 points over the Blazers 14. The Falcons were able to capitalize off of foul shots and the 3pt-line to favor their lead agains the Blazers. Heading into the final quarter the Falcons built a generous lead over the Blazers, 59-40.

In the final 10 minutes the Blazers were able to flip the script and out score the Falcons 18-14, Jackson managed 6 of those points for the Lightning going 2-2 from the foul line. Due to the previous quarters the Blazers were unable to make a full comeback and fell to the Albertus Magnus Falcons 73-58 for the final.

  • Rahmia Johnston recorded a double double with 11 points and 12 rebounds, the Junior also filled the stat sheet with 3 assists, 1steal, and 1 block.
  • Kayla Jackson shot 4-4 from the foul line
