Chicopee, MA- Blazers fall 71-59 to the Regis Pride on Saturday afternoon in Picknelly Arena.

How it Happened 

The Pride opened up the game going on a 15-3 point run building a 22-9 lead over the Blazers at the end of the first quarter. The Blazers began to chip away at the Pride's lead putting up 15 points on the board and as a team getting to the free throw line and hitting 7-8 free points. Both first year forwards Kayla Jackson (Saugus, MA) and Mikayler Patch (North Attleboro, MA) recorded 6 points in the first half, Jackson covered all categories of the state sheet attaining 7 boards, 1 assists, 1 steel, and 1 Block in the first two quarters. As a team the Blazers were outrebounded by the Pride 27-18 and continue to trail behind Regis  38-24 for the half time score. 

The Blazers turned it around in the third quarter putting up 19 points over the Prides 16, slowly closing the gap on the first half lead the Regis Women had created (54-43 at the end of the third). from outside the arc the Blazers cashed in 3 out of the 7 three point opportunities, with two knocked down by gaurd Sarah Evangelista (West Haven, CT) to help the Lightning create an offensive momentum. Because the Regis Pride was able to build a safe lead in the first two quarters, the Blazers were unable to make a full comback and fell to the Pride 71-59 in the final. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Kayla Jackson finsihed with 12 points (including 6-6 from free throw line), 10 boards, 3 assists, 1 steal and 1 block for the Blazers.
  • Soliyana Asfaw (Livingston, NJ) put up 11 points cashing in 2 three pointers for the Blazers.
  • As a team the Blazers shot 66.7% from the foul line
