How It Happened

JWU started hot going on a 9-0 point run, denying the Blazers a chance to get on the board for the first six minutes of play. Kayla Jackson (Saugus, MA) put the Blazers on the board after getting fouled retrieving an offensive board and then going 2-2 from the line about halfway through the first quarter. The Blazers continued to take shots from all over the court but were not successful, the Wildcats led 20-8 heading into the second quarter.

Soliyana Asfaw (Livingston, NJ) put up the first points of the scorless first two minutes of the quarter for both teams, cashing in a 3Pt shot assisted by Brianna Metellus (Springfield, MA). The Blazers were down by 12 points (23-11) with four minutes remaining in the quarter; Sadie Hunt (Sandwich, MA) knocked down a 3Pt shot and a layup in the matter of thirty seconds to kick start the Blazers into their comeback. In the final three minutes of the quarter the Elms Women went on a 17-2 point run over the Wildcats, taking the lead 28-25 heading into the halftime.

The Blazers held onto their lead until about the 6:30 minute mark when Wildcats Shaina Springer made a fast break layup to tie up the game 33-33. The Blazers were able to keep it a close game tying it up at 39-39, but unable to grab the lead for the rest of the quarter. The Blazers start to fall behind as the Wildcats build a six point lead by the end of the quarter, 47-41.

The Wildcats pulled away with a generous lead in the fourth quarter, and even still the Blazers continued to battle shooting 50% outside the arc and recording 15 boards. Blazers Asfaw recorded both the three pointers for the Blazers in the final quarter and both Jackson and Taila Uribe (South Hadley, MA) attained 4 boards each.
