Jackson Recorded 21 Rebounds Helping Blazers Takedown AMCATS

CHICOPEE, MA - The Women overpowered the Anna Maria AMCATS on Tuesday night in Picknelly Arena to pick up another conference win.

How It Happened

The AMCATS and Blazers kept the first quarter a tight match up neither team building a lead more than five points. Anna Maria's Marinique Reddin knocked down a free throw to bring the game to a 14-14 tie with just over 2 minutes left in the quarter. The Blazers took the lead back with two made layups including one by first year Jenny Gorski (Rockville, CT) who also snatched a steal to end the first ten minutes 20-17.

In the second quarter the Blazers held the AMCATS to only seven points and dominated the boards, recording 10 of their 18 rebounds on their defensive end. Despite going 0-5 from the arc Elms was very succesfull from the field and paint putting up 18 points in the quarter, spread evenly throughout the lineup on the court. Mikayler Patch recorded 5 boards, with 3 of them being attained on the defensive end of the court. Elms continued to build a generous lead over the AMCATS leading 38-24.

Anna Maria did not hold back in the third quarter going 37.6% (10-21) from the field and 66.7% (2-3) from the 3Pt-Line to to chip away at the Blazers lead. With a made three by Sarah Evangelista (West Haven, CT) and Brianna Metellus (Springfield, MA) kept the Blazers in the quarter, inlcuding free throws kissed in by Taila Uribe (South Hadley, MA) and Kayla Jackson (Saugus, MA). The AMCATS outscored the Blazers 24-17 in the third quarter, bringing the overall score to 55-48 with Elms leading by seven.

The final quarter was an evenly matched up ten minutes of play with both team putting 16 more points on the board. The Blazers recorded 14 team boards with Kayla Jackson attaining 6 of them, followed by the AMCATS who were just shy by three boards (11 total) by the end of the quarter. ELms went 75% from the charity stripe cashing in 6 free points with four of them by Evangelista who finsihed the quarter going 100% from the line. With the Lead the Blazers created in the first half secure their win over the Anna Maria AMCATS and colleting a conference win with the final of 71-64.
