Women's Basketball fell to Raiders on the Road

NASHUA, NH - The Women traveled to the Raiders home for a Conference play matchup where they fell 81-64 on Saturday afternoon.

Records: Raiders (8-8, 5-3) | Blazers (5-9, 1-7)

How it Happened

The Blazers kept it a tight battle in the first quarter putting up nine points making it a tied game after the first 10 minutes of play. In the first, Elms out rebounded Rivier 11-10 and went 60% from the foul line over the Raiders 50%. 

Into the second quarter the Raiders started knocking down shots posting a 26 point quarter, out sooting the Blazers by seven points. The Blazers increased their free throw percentage this quarter climbing to 75% (6-8). Brianna Metellus ( Springfield, MA) recorded 5 points in the first half and added on 7 more in the second leading for the Blazers with 12 points. At the half the grad student went 4-4 from the foul line, recorded 4 rebounds, and went knocked down two three's for the Blazers. Raiders lead 35-28 heading into the half.

After the half the Raiders did not let up from the field cashing in another 27 points including nine points from beyond the arc, growing their lead over the Blazers. Continueing their success from the free throw line the Blazers sunk another five free points. 

Entering into the fourth quarter the Blazers first year Kaya Jackson (Saugus, MA) went off in the final ten minutes of play putting up 14 points. Jackson went 1-1 from the 3Pt-line, 3-4 from the foul line and recorded four rebounds in the fourth quarter alone. The Raiders had built a generous lead in the previous quarters and despite the Blazers final run in the fourth quarter they were unable to come up with the win falling, 81-64.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Kayla Jackson cashed in 21 points for a career high, recording 9 boards and went 8-10.
  • As a team the Blazers went 23-33 from the foul line
