CHICOPEE, MA - The Elms college Women's Basketball tame the Dean College Bulldogs Saturday in Picknelly arena securing their first conference win, 79-39.

How It Happened

The Blazers defense recorded eight boards in the first quarter and held the Bulldogs to only four points. Rahmia Johnston (Trumbull, CT) led the Blazers with eight points going 2-3 from the three point line and handing out 2 assists. First year Kayla Jackson (Saugus, MA) put up four points on the board and led the Blazers in rebounds recording five in the first quarter. The Blazer shot 50% (3-6) from the three point line, ending the first quarter up 21-4.

In the second quarter the Bulldogs were able to put up 10 points led by guard Natasha Brito with four points. The Lightning continued to shoot lights out cashing in 22 more points in the second quarter going 2-5 from the three point line and 6-10 from the free throw line. Post grad Brianna Metellus (Springfield, MA) secured six points, snatched three steals in the second quarter, and handed out one steal. Jackson and Talia Uribe (South Hadley, MA) dominated the boards in the second ten minutes of play both registering three each. The Blazers continue holding onto the lead, 43-14.

Blazers continued to take shots at the net adding in another 23 points by the end of the third quarter, led by forward Jackson with 7 of their points. The Bulldogs continued to battle against the Blazers, in the third quarter they went 100% (2-2) from the free throw line and went 6-13 from the field adding up 14 points.  

The Bulldogs attempted at closing down the gap but the Blazers denied them the chance as they continued to keep knocking down shots. The Blazers would secure their first conference win over the Bulldogs 79-39.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Rahmia Johnston put up 14 points, handed out 6 assists and recorded 4 boards.
  • Jackson added 13 points, 9 baords, and attained 2 blocks
  • Soliyana Asfaw (Livingston, NJ) cashed in 10 points, 2 boards and handed out 2 assists
  • As a team we hit 10-24 three's and went 9-16 from the foul line.
