The Colonels Draw a Halt to the Women's Basketball Win Streak

MILTON, MA - The non-conference Curry College Women's Basketball team took down the Blazers Saturday afternoon in Katz Gymnasium with a final of 59-43.

How it Happened

The first quarter was all Colonels despite the late charge by the Blazers offense. The Blazers were outscored 15-8 led by Sarah Evangelista (West Haven, CT) with 3 points. The Blazers also registered four team blocks but the Colonels offense was too much.

Closing out the first half the Blazers raised their free throw percentage to 71% from the line, this boost gave the Blazers a strong opening run in the 2nd quarter. The Blazers defense was still pestering the Colonels offense forcing them to turn the ball over five times. Going into halftime the Blazers are down 25-19.

The Colonels would win the third quarter, outscoring the Blazers 25-9 with a 44% FG percentage. Despite the scoring efforts by Rahmia Johnston (Trumbull, CT), Mikayler Patch (North Attleboro, MA), and Sarah Evangelista (West Haven, CT) the Blazers head into the final quarter down 49-28.

Elms would get to the line 17 times in the fourth quarter, cashing in 9 of the free points. Due to the Blazers getting to the line and their scoring from the floor led by Johnston with seven points. The Blazers went on to outscore the Colonels 15-10 in the 4th. Despite the late scoring comeback, the Blazers were not able to come back with a final score of 50-43.

  • Mikayler Patch hit 5-6 from the free throw line, adding 11 points in the game
