SOUTH HADLEY, MA - The Elms College Women's Basketball team defeated the Mount Holyoke College Lyons Wednesday night in Howard Gymnasium,  winning 68-36.

How it Happened 

The Blazers kicked off the game strong scoring 17 points in the first quarter holding the Lyons to zero. Talia Uribe knocked down two shots from the field while adding a free throw leading the Blazers in points for the first 10 minutes. Elms shot 25% from the field and hit 3 out of 8 attempts from beyond the arc. The Lyons out rebounded the Blazers collecting 15 in the first quarter while Elms came up short with 12. Elms led 17-0 heading into the second quarter.

Elms continued to dominate offensively and defensively in the second quarter. The Blazers crashed the boards recording 11 rebounds, Mikayler Patch (North Attleboro, MA) with four in just the second. With a shooting percentage of 62.5% the Blazer hit 10 out of 16 from the field. The Lyons were able to hit a couple shotse, heading into the half Elms 37-8.

Lyones fought back in the second half, only allowing the Blazers to earn sixteen points in the third quarter. Late in the quarter the Lyons were able to go on a 10-0 point run, with five points from Cal McGonagle. The Blazers went 3-3 from the free throw line, but got out beat in the paint recording 6 rebounds. The lyones won the third quarter but the Blazers still held onto their lead of 53-26 heading into the final quarter. 

The Blazers finished out the game locking in 15 more points, all from inside the arc and from the line. Rahmia Johnston (Trumbull, CT) recorded four rebounds in the fourth leading Elms in defensive boards in the quarter. Elms finished the game taking down the Mount Holyoke College Lyons 68-36.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • Jenny Gorski (Rockville, CT) went 2-2 from the line and secured 10 points in the game, finishing as the top scorer for the night.
  • Kayla Jackson (Saugus, MA) led the Blazers in rebounds with 7.
  • Rahmia Johnston recorded 4 assists in the contest.
