Johnston Tabbed NEWBA Newcomer of the Week

Chicopee, MA – Elms College women's basketball sophomore guard Rahmia Johnston (Trumbull, CT) has been named New England Women's Basketball Association Newcomer of the Week.

Johnston powered Elms to a pair of conference wins this past week and averged 19.5 and 9.5 rebounds while shooting 50% from the field. The sophomore guard poured in 24 points, grabbed 12 rebounds, and three assists in a 69-67 win over Lasell.

FROM THE DESK OF COACH PROULX: "Rah had a huge week leading us two big conference wins. She has struggled from time to time from behind the arc and being able to shoot over 60% for the week was huge for her confidence and for our team offensively. She is our motor and when she is paced up, we are paced up and tough to guard. Rah always has played beyond her age, but really is starting to come into her own as one of the leaders of our program."

The New England Women's Basketball Association (NEWBA) provides support for coaches from the New England Region. Membership in NEWBA is open to all Division III head coaches from the region who have a vested interest in the welfare of the organization. At the conclusion of each season, the NEWBA sponsors the Senior All-Star Classic. This has become a great tradition and a memorable way for many seniors to finish their collegiate careers. The contest will be hosted by Western New England University in late March this season. Additional NEWBA awards are listed below.
