Chicopee, MA - The Elms College women's basketball team dropped to Saint Joseph College early this afternoon, ending 44-80.
THE BASICS:
SCORE: Elms 44, SJC 80
RECORDS: Elms (5-3, 2-3 GNAC)
HOW IT HAPPENED:
The Blazers held a 4-0 lead after the first 90 seconds of play, but the Monks scored 16 unanswered points over the following four minutes and headed into the second stanza with a 22-9 advantage.
Elms cut the SJC lead down to nine points (25-16) after sophomore guard Rahmia Johnston (Trumbull, CT) hit a three at the 8:08 mark of the second frame, but St. Joe's posted a 13-2 run which was capped with a layup with 1:55 before the break.
The Monks held a 38-20 cushion at intermission and maintained no less than a 16-point advantage for the remainder of the afternoon.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
- Aiyanalee Lopez (Leominster, Mass.) posted a double-double with 11 points and 16 rebounds
- Johnston scored 11 points with two steals
- Sadie Hunt (Sandwich, Mass.) scored eight points on the day
FROM THE DESK OF COACH PROULX:
"I'm proud of our effort today against a tough and talented SJC team. We are really beat up with injuries right now and fought from beginning to end. Aiyana led us offensively and had a career high in rebounds which was huge because of lack of depth in the post. Looking forward to wrapping up our first semester schedule next week!"
UP NEXT:
The Blazers are back in Picknelly Arena for their GNAC matchup against Emmanuel College on Monday 12/13 at 5PM.
