Huria Drops 30 in GNAC Win at Colby-Sawyer

New London, NH – The Elms College women's basketball team continued their hot start to the 2021-2022 season on Wednesday night. The Blazers traveled to Colby-Sawyer College and came home with a 68-60 GNAC win.

 

THE BASICS:

SCORE: Elms 68, Colby-Sawyer 60

RECORDS: Elms (5-1, 2-1 GNAC), Colby-Sawyer (0-5, 0-2 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED: The Blazers had a strong first quarter jumping ahead by a 13-2 margin.  The Chargers hit a buzzer-beating three to trim the deficit to 10 heading into the second quarter. 

The game stayed close in the second as the home side knocked down two more triples including one with 33 seconds left to make it a 33-26 game heading into the break. 

In the third quarter a 12-4 run gave the Colby-Sawyer their first lead at 39-37. The teams continued to battle with the Blazers taking a 51-50 lead into the final frame.

Elms contained the Colby-Sawyer attack in the last quarter holding onto the lead and securing the Great Northeast Athletic Conference (GNAC) victory.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • McKenzie Huria (Terryville, CT) led all scorers with 30 points
  • Angelica Peguero-Flores (Springfield, MA) registered a double-double with 14 points and 12 rebounds
  • The Blazers shot (45.2%) from the field

 

FROM THE DESK OF COACH PROULX: "I am so proud of our effort tonight after a long road trip. We have really been focusing on the first five minutes and tonight we came out focused on starting strong. Kenz was outstanding. She has been putting in the work out of practice and it is starting to pay off. She shot the ball extremely well and really carried us in the first half. In the second half our posts made huge defensive and offensive plays and we made some great defensive stops at the end. I'm super proud of this group and can't wait for our next GNAC matchup on Saturday."

The Blazers will travel to Regis College on Saturday 12/4 at 2:00PM in GNAC play.
