Blazers Grab First Conference Win at JWU
Providence, RI - The Elms College women's basketball team picked up their first conference win tonight on the road at Johnson and Wales University (Providence), ending 58-43.

HOW IT HAPPENED:
Angelica Peguero-Flores (Springfield, MA) led the Blazers with 17 points and added 7 rebounds as Elms held off the Wildcats 58-43 on Thursday night at the Wildcat Center. The Blazers improve to 4-0, 1-0 in the GNAC.
McKenzie Huria (Terryville, CT) added 13 points, 2 steals, and 3 assists while Rahmia Johnston (Trumbull, CT) added 9 rebounds, 6 assists, and 5 points.
The Blazers came out strong as they garned a quick 16-0 lead in the first quarter. The Blazers shot 8-14 (57.1%) from the field as Peguero-Flores notched 6 points and Waleska Kelly (Central Falls, RI) and Sarah Evangelista (West Haven, CT) banked in 4 points each. The Blazers led 18-2.
Both teams found their rhythm in the second quarter as they traded buckets. Peguero-Flores scored 6 points and Aiyanalee Lopez (Leominster, MA) contributed 4 points from the bench.
Elms shot 14-33 (42.4%) in the first half, paced by 12 points from Peguero-Flores.
Both teams held their offensive rhythm in the third quarter as the Blazers held on to a 46-28 lead paced by Huria with 7 points. Elms opened up an 22-point margin in the fourth after a layup by Kelly. Despite a late 13-6 push from the Wildcats, the Blazers maintained a double-digit lead before sealing the 58-43 victory.
