Women’s Basketball Starts 2021-2022 Season with Home Win over Curry

Chicopee MA - The Elms College women's basketball team kicked off its 2021-2022 season with a 60-52 non-conference win over Curry College at Picknelly Arena on Tuesday Night.

 

THE BASICS:

SCORE: Elms 60, Colby-Sawyer 52

RECORDS: Elms (1-0, 0-0 GNAC), Curry (0-2, 0-0 CCC)

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The visitors got off to a fast start behind strong 3 point shooting, and took a 28-23 lead into halftime.

The Blazers came out in the 3rd quarter and took control for the game. Elms outscored Curry 21-12. The run was fueled by7 points from senior McKenzie Huria (Terryville, CT). Elms built on its lead in the fourth quarter behind 9 points from first year Sarah Evangelista (West Haven, CT), and took the home opener 60-52.  

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

  • Evangelista led all scorers with 18 points
  • Aiyanalee Lopez (Leominster, MA) registered a double-double with 13 points and 12 rebounds
  • Waleska Kelly (Central Falls, RI) had 2 steals

 

FROM THE DESK OF COACH PROULX: "I am so proud of our effort yesterday especially in the 2nd half. Our young kids stepped up tremendously and provided the offense and intensity that we needed last night and moving forward. We made some key stops in the second half that led to game changing plays offensively. We are excited to get back out on the court for a quick turnaround on Thursday."

The Blazers will host MCLA on Thursday 11/11 at 5PM in non-conference action.
