The Elms College Softball team honored their senior class; Kelsey Bennett (Chicopee, MA) and Josie Cammarata (Wolcott, CT). Prior to the game, Sydney Irish, the Chicopee Titans Softball team, and Chuck Cammaratta would join Bennett and Cammarata for the ceremonial first pitch. After play was done, the two seniors would be joined their families, loved ones, and teammates as they would take their final lap around the bases at Condon Field.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
First-year Caity Flynn (Colchester, CT) would get the start for Elms for game one, where she pitched four innings, one scoreless with two strikeouts. The Blazers would be the first to score in the game, after a solo-home run by junior Kyla Cook (Tauton, MA) to left field in the bottom of the first inning. Saint Joseph would tie the game in the top of the second inning, after an error occurred by Flynn with two outs and two runners on the corners, but Elms would get out of the jam after the next batter flew out to first-year right fielder Amanda Raymond (Auburn, ME). In the top of the third inning, the Blue Jays would then take the lead scoring an additional three runs after a double, a second error by Elms, and a single. In the top of the fifth inning, first-year Jill Dykema (Preston, CT) would come into pitch the remaing three innings, all three scoreless, and recorded one strikeout. But in the bottom half of the inning, the Blazers would cut that lead in half, after Cammarata would hit a single and advance to second base which would drive in junior Sarah Fortini (Florida, MA), to bring the score to 2-4. USJ would extend their lead after a single down the left field line would bring home one person to score. Then in the bottom half of the fourth inning, Elms would have a jolt of energy put into their offense after Flynn stole home, after narrowly missing the tag with the ball not being in the defensive player's glove. Which would then be followed by back-to-back doubles by Fortini and Raymond, to bring the game to 4-5, but the Blue Jays would hold their one run lead and beat Elms 5-4.

Game 2
Game Two would be forfeited by the Blazers after an injury occurred in Game One, due to NCAA Regulations, resulting in a 7-0 victory for the Blue Jays.

UP NEXT: The Elms Softball team will return to action on Sunday, April 28th as they will conclude the 2024 season at Albertus Magnus College in a conference doubleheader at 12 & 2 PM.
