HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
First-year Jill Dykema (Preston, CT) would get the start for Elms for game one, where she threw four innings, one scoreless, and three strikeouts. Emmanuel would be the first to score in the game, scoring six runs in the bottom of the first inning after back-to-back RBI-singles and followed by a grand slam to center field. Then in the bottom of the second inning, another run would score to give the Saints a 0-7 lead. The Blazers would respond in the top of the fourth inning, after senior Josie Cammarata (Wolcott, CT) doubled down the left field line to drive in junior Katie Cosmos (Wolcott, CT) and would be followed by a two-run single up the middle by junior Danajah Stokes (Savannah, GA) to drive in Cammarata and Dykema to cut down the lead 3-7. In the bottom of the fourth inning, the Saints would score again off a single to right field. First-year Caity Flynn (Colchester, CT) would come in relief in the top of the fifth inning and she would throw 1.2 innings with a scoreless inning in the fifth. Emmanuel would quickly adapt in the bottom of the sixth inning after a two-run home run to center field and a sacrifice fly out to center field, to score the final run of the opener, with the Saints taking game one 3-11.

Game 2
Game two would begin just like game one with an early 3-0 Elms lead, after Dykema hit a three-run home run to left center field, driving in Cammarata and Cosmos, in the top of the first inning. That home run would be Dykema's first career home run at the collegiate level. First-year Kaelyn Zakaitis (Amherst, MA) would take the mound for the Blazers in game two, where she pitched two innings with a strikeout. In the bottom of the first inning, Emmanuel would take the lead, scoring five runs off of back-to-back singles and a fielding error. The Saints would extend their lead in the bottom of the second inning to 3-8 after a two-run home run to center field and a run scored off a fielder's choice. Elms would get back on to the board in the top of the third inning, after Cammarata would single and would advance to second base driving in first-year Amanda Raymond (Auburn, ME) after an error by the right fielder. In the bottom of the third inning, Flynn and Dykema would both come in to relief, where Dykema would throw two more strikeouts, but Emmanuel would score nine runs in the bottom of the third and three more runs in the bottom of the fourth inning to secure the sweep 4-20.

UP NEXT: The Elms Softball team will return to action on Wednesday, April 17th as they host Lasell University in a conference doubleheader at 3 & 5 PM at Cheryl R. Condon Field.
