Softball Sweeps Fisher at Home

CHICOPEE, MA - The Elms College Softball team hosted FIsher College for a non-conference doubleheader at Cheryl R. Condon Field on Sunday afternoon.

Roger Constant, the President of Chicopee Little League Softball, would throw out the ceremonial first pitch.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
Junior Kyla Cook (Taunton, MA) drove in five runs on two hits to lead the Blazers past the Fisher Falcons 15-3 in Game 1 on Sunday. Cook hit an inside the park homerun in the second inning scoring two, singled in the first scoring one, and hit a sacrifice fly in the fourth scoring one.

The Blazers offense started off hot in the bottom of the first inning after first-year Amanda Raymond (Auburn, ME) singled, scoring one run, Cook's single, scoring one run, and first-year Caity Flynn (Colchester, CT) tripled, scoring two runs. Elms scored six runs on two hits in the bottom of the second inning with help from a senior Josie Cammarata (Wolcott, CT) double, Cook's home run, and junior Sarah Fortini (Florida, MA) RBI groundout.

Flynn earned the win for the Blazers. The righty gave up six hits and three runs over five innings, striking out seven and walking none. Camryn Willis took the loss for the Falcons, allowing 15 runs on 10 hits. 

Game 2
First-year Kaelyn Zakaitis (Amherst, MA) was on the mound for the Blazers where she surrendered zero hits and zero runs over five innings, striking out five and walking one. Willis took the loss for the Falcons, throwing four innings, surrendering 11 runs on 11 hits.

The Blazers were the first to get on the board in the first when junior Katie Cosmos (Wolcott, CT) had a sacrifice fly to score Raymond. The offense continued in the bottom of the fourth with five runs on five hits from Cammarata, Cook, Flynn and junior Danajah Stokes (Savannah, GA) contributing with RBIs.

Cook and Zakaitis each collected two hits for the Blazers, with Cosmos and Zakaitis each having multiple RBIs in game two. The Blazer defense did not commit a single error in the field, with Flynn having the most chances (eight). 

UP NEXT: The Elms Softball team will travel to Regis College in a conference doubleheader on Saturday, April 13th at 12 & 2 PM.
