Bay Path Fringes Softball in Doubleheader

LONGMEADOW, MA - The Elms College Softball team traveled to Bay Path University for a non-conference doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
First-year Kaelyn Zakaitis (Amherst, MA) would get the start for the Blazers in game one of the Tuesday doubleheader. In her 5.2 innings pitched, Zakaitis threw four scoreless innings with three strikeouts. In the top of the second inning, junior Kyla Cook (Tauton, MA) would hit a double for Elms, but she would be left on base. The game would remain scoreless until the bottom of the fifth inning, after the Wildcats scored five runs to take the lead. In the top of the sixth inning, senior Josie Cammarata (Wolcott, CT) would sacrifice fly-out to second base to drive in first-year Jill Dykema (Preston, CT) for the Blazer score. Bay Path would respond quickly, scoring an additional two more runs in the bottom half of the inning. The Wildcats would go on to win the first game of the doubleheader.

Game 2
Dykema would take the mound for the Blazers in game two of the doubleheader, pitching all seven innings with seven strikeouts and four scoreless innings. Elms would get on the board first after having two runners on, Cammarata would hit a single to drive in junior Katie Cosmos (Wolcott, CT). Bay Path would come back in the bottom of the second inning with two runs and two more runs in the bottom of fifth inning. The Elms defense would stop the Wildcat offense in the final inning, holding them scoreless, but Bay Path would win the game and secure the sweep on the day with a 1-4 final.

UP NEXT: The Elms Softball team will travel to the Massachusetts College of Liberal Arts (MCLA) for a doubleheader at 2 & 4 PM.
