Softball Wraps Up Spring Break

CLERMONT, FL - The Elms College Softball team wrapped up their 2024 Spring Break trip in a non-conference doubleheader Friday against Marietta College and Wittenberg University at Legends Way for the Spring Games Collegiate Softball Tournament.

Score: Elms College 0 | Wittenberg University 11

HOW IT HAPPENED
Game 1
The Marietta College Pioneers would put themselves on the board quickly in the bottom of the first inning scoring three runs and then adding an additional 6 runs the following inning. First-year Kaelyn Zakaitis (Amherst, MA) would take the circle for the Blazers, facing 23 batters, recording four strikeouts, and only allowing seven hits. Senior Josie Cammarata (Wolcott, CT) would go two-for-two in the matchup, but Marietta's defense would not allow Elms to capture their momentum they needed to come back into the ball game, and the Pioneers would defeat the Blazers 9-0.

Game 2
The Wittenberg Univ. Tigers would write a similar narrative in game two, scoring an early two runs in the top of the first inning, and would go on to score three runs in the second, two runs in the third, and four runs in the fourth inning. First-year Caity Flynn (Colchester, CT) would make the start for the Blazers and would add a second strikeout on the day after facing 17 batters in her 2.1 innings pitched and posting 34-56 strikes-to-pitches in the match up. But the Tigers would hold off Elms coming out with a 11-0 victory.

UP NEXT: The Elms Softball team will return to action in the home opener against Vermont State University-Lyndon in a doubleheader at Cheryl R. Condon Field on Tuesday, March 19th at 2 and 4 PM.
