Cheryl R. Condon Throws out the First Pitch on Newly Renovated Field

CHICOPEE, MA- The Elms College Softball team hosted the Fisher College Falcons on the newly renovated Chery R. Condon Field Tuesday afternoon.

The Blazers Prior Softball coach and who the field was named after, Cheryl R. Condon kicked off the official opening day of the softball field by throwing out the first pitch to senior captain, Nicole Defeo (Watertown, CT).

HOW IT HAPPENED

Jayden Dow (Springfield, MA) was in the circle for the Blazers as they went up against the Fisher College Falcons Tuesday afternoon. Dow threw for seven innings, the junior threw 8 strikeouts and let up 12 hits with only 4 runs.  

The Blazers chalked a run up on the board in the fourth inning with an RBI from Josie Cammarata (Wolcott, CT) as she grounded out to the third baseman. 

In the Bottom of the fifth Nicole DeFeo recorded a SAC Bunt to the pitcher for an RBI with bases loaded to advance Sarah Fortini home to tie the game up at 2's.

The Falcons managed to send two more runs home in the top of the seventh with an RBI from K. Zellmer and M. Kelley to jump them to a 4-2 lead over the Blazers.

With a chance to rebuttal in the bottom of the 7th the Blazers were unsuccessful and fell to a final score of 4-2.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Blazers Softball team were able to make connections with the ball recording 8 hits and 6 runs against the Falcons.

In the first inning Elms managed 4 runs off of two hits to take the lead over the Falcons 4-2. Cammarata recorded two RBI along with Jayden Dow (Springfield, MA) recording one for the inning. With the bases loaded and two outs Fortini stayed ahead of the count and was walked to send home the fourth run, rewarding herself with an RBI.

The Falcons would chalk up runs in the 1'st, 3rd, 4th, 6th, and 7th putting up two runs in each inning. 

The Blazers would manage to add two more runs to their total in the 3rd and 4th innings, but were unable to stay ahead of the Falcons.

The Blazer Softball team will head to Rivier University Raiders on Thursday, April 27th for a conference doubleheader at 5PM & 7PM.
