Pioneers Take a Pair From Blazers

NORTH HAMPTON, MA - The Elms College traveled to Smith College for a non-conference double header against the Pioneers on Tuesday afternoon.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Jayden Dow (Springfield, MA) was in the pitching lanes for the Blazers as they went up against the Pioneers of Smith College. Dow threw for four innings, the junior recorded 1 strikeout, 14 hits and 14 runs in game one.

Elms College knocked in a run in the first inning. With a single up the middle from Katie Cosmos (Wolcott, CT) sending home Nicole DeFeo (Watertown, CT).  

The Pioneers would respond in the bottom of the first with a double to center field by T. Ang sent home two runners to grasp the lead 2-1 over the Blazers.

The Blazers would continue to make connections with the ball, recording four base hits against the Pioneers, but were unable to send any more runners home to grow their score.

Smith recorded a major at bat in the bottom of the fourth, growing their lead by nine after a full bat around.  

The Blazers would fall 14-1 in the first game after a 5-innings.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Blazers added another four hits in the second game with base appearances from Courtney Schwark (Port Ewen, NY), Kelsey Bennett (Chicopee, MA), Cosmos, and Arielli Bellavista (Springfield, MA). 

Kyla Cook (Taunton, MA) started in the circle for the Blazers, throwing from between the pitching lanes for two innings. Sarah Fortini (Florida, MA) would relieve Cook at the top of the third for the final two innings of the game. 

The Pioneers would open up the game with a nine run second inning, giving themselves a comfortable lead early. 

The Blazers would fall in game two, 13-0 for the final score.

On Saturday, April 22nd the Blazers will be hosting the Regis College Pride for a conference double header at 1PM and 3PM. Keep an eye on the schedule as location of the game could change!
