Softball Fell to Sharks in Strikeout Cancer Game

CHICOPEE, MA - The Elms College hosted the Simmons University Sharks Sunday afternoon for a Conference Double Header and the Blazers Strikeout Cancer Game for Non-Hodgkin's Lymphoma. The Sharks tookdown the Blazers 12-0 in game one followed by 14-0 for game two.

To start the first game off the Elms College Softball team invited two non-Hodgkin lymphoma cancer survivors: Angela DeFeo and Adrienne Walker to throw out the first pitch. Catching Angela's first pitch is her sister and senior captain of the blazers softball team, Nicole DeFeo. Catching Adrienne's first pitch is the Blazers head coach, Bre Marcyoniak.

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Simmons Sharks were able to get runs on the board early with their quick base running. In the first inning the Sharks were able to send home two runs with an inside the park homerun from S. McMahon for a 2 RBI hit.

The Sharks went on to add a run in the top of the third inning, four runs in the fourth and finished out with five more runs in the sixth inning. 

The Blazer were out hit 4 to 13 in the conference match up against the Sharks. Katie Cosmos (Wolcott, CT) recorded two of the Blazers hits, with a hit from both Nicole Defeo (Watertown, CT) and Jayden Dow (Springfield, MA).

The Blazers would fall to the Sharks 12-0 after five innings in game one.

HOW IT HAPPENED

In the second game Courtney Schwark (Port Ewen, NY) was able to add a hit to the scorebook with a single to left field in the bottom of the fourth.

Ceara Wright (Chicopee, MA) would start in the circle for the Blazers, pitching the first two innings with Sarah Fortini finishing out the game for the continued three innings. 

The Sharks would send home runners in the first, second, third and fifth innings recording 9 hits and 14 runs, to finish out the game winning 14-0 in the conference match up.

The Blazers will head to Smith College for a non conference double header at 3PM and 5PM on Tuesday, April 18th.
