Blazers Fall in Conference Double Header Against Blue Jays

WEST HARTFORD, CT - The Softball team was unable to takedown the USJ Blue Jays on Monday, April 3rd as they came up short in both contests.

BASICS

Score: Blue Jays 7 | Blazers 2

Records: Blue Jays (10-8, 1-0) | Blazers (1-12, 0-3)

HOW IT HAPPENED

Senor Nicole Defeo (Watertown, CT) put the Blazers on the board in the top of the 5th innings with a knock to right field to send home both Courtney Schwark (Port Ewen, NY) and Sara Fortini. This would be the only two runs the Blazers send home against the University of Saint Joseph's Blue Jays (7-2).

Jayden Dow (Springfield, MA) was in the pitching lanes for Elms, where the junior recorded 3 strikeouts against the Blue Jays.

The Blue Jays made contact with the ball in the first three innings, recording seven runs. With just one more out to go in the bottom of the second, A. Volinsky sent the ball out of the park for a 2 RBI homerun, to double their score 4-0 heading into the top of the third inning. 

The Blazers recorded six hits against the Blue Jays, but were unable to add any more runs to their score.

HOW IT HAPPENED

Schwark and Dow both recorded an RBI a piece in the top of the seventh to put the Blazers on the board against the Blue Jays. 

Early in the game the Blue Jays were able to tattoo the ball sending home 6 runs in 5 hits to grow their lead against the Blazers. A. Volinsky recorded her second homerun of the day recording a 3 RBI in the bottom of the second inning. 

In the bottom of the sixth USJ sent home their final run of the game with a single to right field by J. Zup. 

Katie Cosmos (Wolcott, CT) recorded two of the seven hits for the Blazers with Mikayla Costello (Southington, CT) being walked twice.

Kyla Cook (Taunton, MA) started in the circle for the Blazers and was relieved by Dow for the final five innings. 

The Blazers would finish out the conference double header 0-2 against the University of Saint Joseph's Blue Jays.
