Blazers Split with Regis

WESTON, MA. – The Elms College softball team split their last conference doubleheader against Regis College on Saturday 1-0 (8 innings)  and 8-1.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Game 1: Elms 0, Regis 1 (8 innings)

Both teams were strong in the pitcher's circle on Saturday, but Regis was just a little bit stronger at the plate in a victory over the Elms College Blazers on Saturday. Jayden Dow (Springfield, MA) started the game for Elms College Blazers and recorded 22 outs.


One bright spot for Elms was a single by Kyla Cook (Taunton, MA) in the first inning.


Dow took the circle for the Blazers. The pitcher allowed four hits and zero runs over seven and a third innings, striking out seven and walking one.


Josie Cammarata (Wolcutt, CT), Nicole DeFeo (Watertown, CT), and Cook each collected one hit to lead the Blazers. Elms College Blazers was sure-handed and didn't commit a single error. Alli Alleano (Vernon, CT) made the most plays with seven.

 
 

Game 2: Elms 8, Regis 1

A seven-run fifth inning led the Elms College Blazers to an 8-1 victory on Saturday. The rally was led by singles by Brandi Johnson (Philmont, NY) and Ryanne Fournier (Longmeadow, Mass), a groundout by DeFeo, and a double by Cook.

Elms got things started in the first inning when an error scored one run for the Blazers.

The Elms College Blazers notched seven runs in the fifth inning. The offensive onslaught by the Blazers was led by Cook, Johnson, DeFeo, and Fournier, all sending runners across the plate with RBIs in the inning.

Mackenzie Alvarado (Plainville, CT) was the winning pitcher for the Blazers. The righty went seven innings, allowing one run on eight hits, striking out one, and walking zero.

The Elms College Blazers tallied 12 hits in the game. Courtney Schwark (Kingston, NY), Sofie Oliveira (Windsor Locks, Conn.), and Johnson each managed multiple hits for Elms College Blazers. Schwark led Elms College Blazers with three hits in three at bats.

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Cammarata, DeFeo, and Cook each collected one hit to lead the Blazers in game one.

- Cook, Johnson, DeFeo, and Fournier had multiple RBIs on the day.
