Blazer's Host Doubleheader Against Rivier University

CHICOPEE, MA. – The Elms College softball team swept by Rivier University conference doubleheader Saturday 7-4 and 9-0.


THE BASICS:

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Game 1: RU 7, Elms 4

The Blazers completed the first game with one error. During the second inning, Cammarata singled to center field allowing Schwark to make it to home plate. This tied up the game 1-1 going into the third inning.

The Blazers were down by six going into the 6th inning when Josie Cammarata (Wolcutt, CT) smacked a double to left field bringing Courtney Schwark (Kingston, NY) and Brandi Johnson (Philmont, NY) home.

During the seventh inning, the Blazers tried to close the gap when Sofie Oliveira (Windsor Locks, Conn.) sacrificed flew to center field. This allowed Sarah Fortini (Florida, MA) to add one more to the scoreboard.

Jayden Dow (Springfield, MA) was on the rubber for the Blazers striking out six. Mackenzie Alvarado (Plainville, CT) took over for Dow. Alvarado struck out two.

 

Game 2: RU 9, Elms 0 (6 Innings)

The Blazers kept the score close in the first few innings but were not able to hold the Rivier Raiders off later in the game. 
 
In the bottom of the second inning, Schwark managed to get on base by hitting a single. During the bottom of the third inning Brandi Johnson (Philmont, NY) reached first on an error by the Raider's shortstop. Alvarado singled to right field allowing Johnson to advance to second.
 
Alvarado started in the circle for the Blazers striking out three. Dow took over for Alvarado during the top of the sixth inning to close out the game.
 
 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Alvarado and Cammarata both hit a double in the first game.

- Cammarata racked up three RBIs and Oliveira added one RBI in the first game.

- Schwark notched two stolen bases in game one.

-  Alvarado struck out three in the second game.

- Alvarado and Schwark both got hits in the second game.

- The Blazers will be hosting a nonconference doubleheader against Fisher College at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM on Sunday 4/24.
