WEST HARTFORD, CT – The Elms College softball team splits their conference doubleheader today against the University of Saint Joseph 7-3 and 8-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Game #1 Blazers Win 7-3

The Elms College Blazers win their first of two against the University of St. Joseph CT on Saturday, 7-3

Elms College Blazers put up three runs in the seventh inning. The offensive onslaught came from doubles by Courtney Schwark (Kinston, NY) and Sofie Oliveira (Windsor Locks, Conn.).

Jayden Dow (Springfield, MA) was credited with the victory for the Elms College Blazers. Dow went seven innings, allowing three runs on six hits and striking out four.

Amanda Savinelli took the loss for St. Joseph CT. Savinelli lasted four and a third innings, allowing seven hits and four runs while striking out two.

Elms College Blazers racked up 12 hits on the day. Oliveira, Schwark, Josie Cammarata (Wolcutt, CT), and Nicole DeFeo (Watertown, CT) all managed multiple hits for Elms College Blazers. Cammarata, Schwark, and Oliveira each collected three hits to lead Elms College Blazers.


Game 2: USJ Wins 8-0 (5innings)
 

The Blazers fell behind early and couldn't come back in an 8-0 loss to St. Joseph CT on Saturday. University of St. Joseph CT took the lead on a home run in the first inning.
 

The Elms College Blazers struggled to contain the high-powered offense of St. Joseph CT, giving up eight runs.
 

University of St. Joseph CT opened up scoring two runs when Frankie Ferrante homered in the first inning.
 

A single by Mackenzie Alvarado (Plainville, CT) in the fifth inning was a positive for the Blazers.
 

Natalie Amato was on the rubber for St. Joseph CT surrendered zero runs on one hit over five innings, striking out 12 and walking one.
 

While in the circle Alvarado surrendered six runs on seven hits over three innings, striking out two and walking one.
 

Alvarado went 1-for-2 at the plate to lead Elms College Blazers in hits.
 
 
 


INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Oliveira, Schwark, Cammarata, and DeFeo all managed multiple hits in the first game.

- Cammarata, Schwark, and Oliveira each collected three hits in game one.

- Alvarado went 1-for-2 at the plate in game two.

- The Blazers will be on the road to compete in a conference doubleheader against Simmons University at 12:00 PM and 2:00 PM on Sunday 4/3.
