Blazers Softball Fall to Nichols College in Saturday's Doubleheader

DUDLEY, MA – The Elms College Softball team lost both games during their non-conference doubleheader today against Nichols College 7-2 and 8-0.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

Game #1

Elms College Blazers watched the game slip away early and couldn't recover in a 7-2 loss to Nichols College on Saturday.  Nichols College scored on a single and a sacrifice fly in the first inning.
 
Nichols College got things started in the first inning. Cesar singled on a 2-2 count, scoring one run.
 
Nichols College scored four runs in the sixth inning.  The offensive onslaught by Nichols College was led by Jessica Botelho, Samantha Kostek, and Cesar, all driving in runs in the frame.
 
Chelsea Indyk led Nichols College to victory in the pitcher's circle. Their pitcher allowed five hits and two runs over four and a third innings, striking out nine.
 
Jayden Dow (Springfield, MA) pitched for the Elms College Blazers. The pitcher lasted six innings, allowing eight hits and seven runs while striking out three.
 
Elms College Blazers racked up five hits on the day.  Courtney Schwark (Kinston, NY) and Josie Cammarata (Wolcutt, CT) each had multiple hits for the Elms College Blazers.  Cammarata and Schwark each collected two hits to lead the Elms College Blazers.
 
 

Game #2

Saturday was a long day for the Elms College Blazers, falling to Nichols College 8-0.
 
One bright spot for the Elms College Blazers was a single by Alli Alleano (Vernon, CT) in the third inning.
 
The Nichols College pitcher went five innings, allowing zero runs on two hits and striking out three.
 
Mackenzie Alvarado (Plainville, CT) started in the circle for the Elms College Blazers. They lasted three innings, allowing six hits and five runs while striking out two.
 
Alleano and Jayden Dow all had one hit to lead the Elms College Blazers.
 


INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Cammarata and Schwark each collected two hits to lead the Elms College Blazers in the first game.

- Alleano and Jayden Dow both had one hit to lead the Blazers in the second game.

- The Blazers will be on the road to compete in a non-conference doubleheader against Albertus Magnus College at 3:00 PM and 5:00 PM on Tuesday 3/29.
