Blazers Softball Swept the Field in the Sunshine State

Fort Myers, FL – The Elms College Softball team swept their first non-conference doubleheader against Martin Luther College on Saturday afternoon 21-4 and 11-10.

HOW IT HAPPENED:

The Blazers found two victories over the Martin Luther College Knights.

Game #1

Elms College Blazers got things started in the first inning.  Sofie Oliveira (Windsor Locks, Conn.) singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring two runs.


Elms College Blazers notched six runs in the fourth inning.  The offensive firepower by Elms College Blazers was led by Courtney Schwark (Kinston, NY), Josie Cammarata (Wolcutt, CT), Nicole DeFeo (Watertown, CT), and Ryanne Fournier (Longmeadow, Mass.), all knocking in runs in the inning.


Jayden Dow (Springfield, MA) led the Elms College Blazers to victory on the rubber. Dow's arm allowed four hits and three runs over four innings, striking out six and walking zero. Mackenzie Alvarado (Plainville, CT) threw one inning in relief out of the bullpen.

Elms College Blazers scattered 20 hits in the game.  Alli Alleano (Vernon, CT), Kyla Cook (Taunton, MA), Schwark, Cammarata, and Fournier all managed multiple hits for Elms College Blazers.  Alleano went 4-for-4 at the plate to lead Elms College Blazers in their win.

Game #2

Fortini's walk-off gives Elms College Blazers victory over MLK

Elms College Blazers defeated MLK 11-10 on Saturday thanks to a walk-off single.  The game was tied at ten with the Blazers batting in the bottom of the seventh when Sarah Fortini singled on a 1-1 count, scoring one run.
 
Despite falling down by four runs in the second inning, MLK tried to fight back.  MLK scored nine runs in the failed comeback on a grand slam but the Blazers held them off to secure their spot on the top.
 
Elms College Blazers captured the lead in the second inning when Katie Cosmos (Walcott, CT) singled on the first pitch of the at-bat, scoring one run.
 
In the bottom of the sixth inning, Elms College Blazers tied things up at ten.  An error scored one run for the Blazers.
 
Mackenzie Alvarado (Plainville, CT) was credited with the victory for the Blazers. The right-hander lasted five innings, allowing four hits and five runs while striking out six and walking one.  Dow threw two innings in relief out of the bullpen.
 
 
The Blazers scattered 15 hits in the game.  Sofie Oliveira (Windsor Locks, Conn.), Josie Cammarata, Courtney Schwark, and Alli Alleano each managed multiple hits for the Blazers.  Cammarata and Oliveira all had three hits to lead the Elms College Blazers.
 


INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

- Alleano went 4-for-4 at the plate during the first game

Kyla Cook (Taunton, MA), Schwark, Cammarata, and Fournier all managed multiple hits for Elms College Blazers

- Cammarata and Oliveira all had three hits in the second game.

- Fortini's walk-off secured the Blazer's victory over MLK in the second game.
