Softball Falls to Bethany Lutheran, North Park

FORT MYERS, Fla. - The Elms College softball team suffered a 6-2 setback in eight innings against Bethany Lutheran and dropped a 10-1 decision to North Park during Gene Cusic Classic action on Sunday, March 10 in Fort Myers, Fla.

In the first game against Bethany Lutheran, Elms plated two runs in the bottom of the sixth inning to give the Blazers a 2-0 advantage headed into the final frame.

Senior center fielder Leah Spring (South Hadley, Mass.) reached on an error allowing junior Abby Capone (Fitchburg, Mass.) to scored the first run. Senior catcher Sarah Buckley (Wilbraham, Mass.) then stole home to give Elms a 2-0 cushion.

Bethany Lutheran answered with two runs in the top of the seventh and held the Blazers scoreless in the home half of the stanza to force an extra frame. In the eighth, Bethany Lutheran tallied four runs to seal its 6-2 victory.

Elms' sophomore pitcher Jessica Colson (Agawam, Mass.) was terrific through the first seven innings issuing 10 strikeouts until Bethany Lutheran struck for its four-spot in the extra frame. 

The Blazers followed the game with a 10-1 loss to North Park.
