Men’s Volleyball Loses Tough Conference Battle to Regis

WESTON, MA - The Elms College Men's Volleyball team matched up against Regis College on Tuesday night.

Match 1 (Conference)
Score: Elms College 0 (17, 22, 23) | Regis College 3 (25, 25, 25)

HOW IT HAPPENED
Elms jumped out to a quick lead guided by kills from sophomore Rafa Artero (Madrid, Spain), graduate student Pedro De Jesus (East Hartford, CT), and first-year Nick Uschmann (Agawam, MA). However, Regis stormed back, recording some kills of their own and forcing the Blazers to commit some service errors. Elms committed a ton of attack and service errors, which allowed the Pride to pull away and extend their lead. Uschmann and first-year John Bellafronte (Enfield, CT) both recorded a kill to put the Blazers within reach, only down 20-16. Regis didn't let their lead dwindle, and closed out the first set 25-17 win with a couple kills.

Elms started off the second set with three kills again by Artero, Uschmann, and De Jesus. Regis followed this again by storming back to take a closer lead. Three straight kills by De Jesus kept the Blazers within one point, and a late kill by first-year Joey Crain (Southwick, MA) tied the set at 15. Regis did not falter however, and continued to put pressure on the young Blazers team. They racked up a couple of points from service errors, and recorded some kills of their own. Artero, Uschmann, and De Jesus tried to keep the Blazers in the match with some late kills of their own again, but the Pride were too much, winning the second set 25-22.

Uschmann and De Jesus led the way for the Blazers in the third set, as Elms would go up 9-5. Regis cut into the Blazers lead again, but a kill by Crain put Elms up 15-10. The Blazers held the lead for the majority of the set, and received some more kills from De Jesus and Bellafronte to go up 20-15. Regis got the ball back and rattled off a plethora of kills, tying the Blazers and eventually stealing the 25-23 set win, and the match.
