Men's Volleyball Lose Home Opener Against Regis

CHICOPEE, MA - The Elms College Men's Volleyball team hosted the Pride of Regis College for their home opener at Picknelly Arena, in conference action Friday night.

Score: Elms College 0 (19, 15, 22) | Regis College 3 (25, 25, 25)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The opening set would begin with a kill by first-year Nick Uschmann (Agawam, MA) from graduate student Collin Liedke (Newington, CT). Regis would respond by taking the lead. The two sides would trade possession off of errors, until Liedke would make a kill from graduate student Pedro De Jesus (East Hartford, CT) bringing the score to 6-7. Regis would continue to add to their lead until Uschmann would make a second kill from first-year John Bellafronte (Enfield, CT). Moments later, De Jesus would earn a kill for the Blazers evening the score at 12. Elms would record one more kill from Uschmann in the set, but the Pride would take the set 25-19.

The second set would start with a score for Regis, but Leidke would set up De Jesus to make two kills to bring Elms 3-5. The Pride would continue to add to their lead, but the Blazers would show some offensive life with another kill from De Jesus bringing the score to 9-14. Elms would continue to rally with kills from Uschmann and Liedke, but Regis would close the middle set 25-15.

The third and final set went back and forth after a kill from Bellafronte tied the score and would follow his kill with an ace to take the lead for the Blazers. Regis would retake the lead and moments later, Uschmann would make another kill for Elms bringing the score to 6-7 (Regis). The momentum would swing back in favor of the Pride, but back-to-back kills from De Jesus and Liedke and a massive block from De Jesus and Bellafronte would tie the score up again at 11. Regis would regain the lead and three back-to-back-to-back kills from Uschmann would be followed by three game-tying kills from Liedke, Uschmann, and De Jesus. But following the late rally, the Regis Pride would secure the win by a score of 25-22.
