After an Extended Second Set, Men's Volleyball Loses to Eastern Nazarene

NEWTON, MA - The Elms College Men's Volleyball team faced off against the Eastern Nazarene College Lions on the road in a non-conference matchup.

BASICS

Score: Elms College 0 | Eastern Nazarene College 3

Records: Blazers 0-2, 0-1 (GNAC) | Lions 1-0, 0-0 (NEVC)

HOW IT HAPPENED

The Blazers would lose the opening set 17-25. In the first set, graduate student Pedro De Jesus (East Hartford, CT) recorded one service ace and a kill. During the same set graduate student Collin Leidke (Newington, CT), first-year John Bellafronte (Enfield, CT), and sophomore Rafa Artero (Madrid, Spain) each would record a kill.

The second set would become a battle between the two sides, ending in a 28-30 finish in the Lions favor. The set would begin with a 10-5 Elms lead, which would include aces from Leidke and De Jesus, and three kills from first-year Nick Uschmann (Agawam, MA). The second set would continue with kills from junior Joshua Fernandez Garcia (Canovanas, PR), Bellafronte, Uschmann, and five kills from De Jesus.

The final set would again start with another Blazer lead, but would finish with a final score of 16-25 ENC. Uschmann and De Jesus would each record two kills, followed by kills from Atero and Bellafronte. Elms would continue to battle to the very end, but the Lions would keep their lead and secure the victory.

INSIDE THE NUMBERS

  • De Jesus would lead the Blazers with 10.0 points and two service aces.

  • De Jesus and Uschmann would both lead their team in digs (7).
