Blazers Feature Senior Night Sweep over Lions

CHICOPEE, MA – Elms men's volleyball swept Emerson tonight 3-0 in GNAC play.

SCORES: Elms 3 – Emerson 0 (26-24, 25-18, 26-24)

RECORDS: Elms (12-13, 8-6 GNAC) Emerson (5-16, 3-9 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

 

The first set was back-and-forth as the teams remained tied through 15. The Lions put together a run that had the Blazers down 4 before a kill from Pedro De Jesus put the Blazers at 17-20. A Lion kill gave Emerson set point at 24-19 before the Blazers battled 5 straight points to tie the game at 24-24. A kill from Carlos Mercado and a Lion error gave Elms the extra-point win at 26-24. 

The Blazers saw themselves down early in the second set as they faced an 0-4 deficit before a kill from Mercado put them on the board. The Blazers tied the game at 9-9 before a service run by Moose Perry gave Elms a 15-10 lead. Another Mercado kill pushed the Blazers to 20-15 before a service error sealed the set 25-18 for the Blazers.

The third set again saw the Blazers trailing 4 at 3-7 before a pair of kills from Luis Martinez tied the set at 11. A pair of kills from Mercado and Martinez gave the Blazers a 20-15 advantage and a kill by Perry gave the Blazers match-point at 24-19. The Lions would not go down without a fight as they battled to tie the score at 24-24. A kill and solo block from De Jesus would seal the set and match for the Blazers as they won 26-24 and 3-0. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

 

Mercado led all players with 19 kills with De Jesus adding 11. Perry tallied 8 kills on 11 swings and hit a season-best .727. 

Antonio Delgado Rolon led the Blazer offense to a .280 hitting percentage with 41 assists and added 2 kills and 5 digs. 

Martinez led the Blazer defense with 10 digs with Mercado and Collin Liedke adding 7 a piece.

The Blazers are back on the road tomorrow for a non-conerence matchup vs. Vassar at 7pm.
