Blazers Sweep Saints in Straight Sets

CHICOPEE, MA – Elms men's volleyball swept GNAC opponent Emmanuel in straight sets tonight, 3-0.

SCORES: Elms 3 | Emmanuel 0 (25-21, 25-17, 25-22)

RECORDS: Elms (9-13, 5-6 GNAC) Emmanuel (12-10, 5-5 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

The first set was tied at 10 before a service run from Pedro De Jesus gave the Blazers a 3 point lead. A pair of kills from Carlos Mercado gave the Blazers a late 5 point advantage at 20-15. The Saints would not go down without a fight before a service error sealed the set for the Blazers 25-21. The second set remained close again though the first ten points before the Blazers took a commanding 17-10 lead on a trio of kills from Mercado and Martinez. A late Saints push brought them within 5 before a string of errors and a solo block from Axelmanuel Figueroa Acevedo sealed the set 25-17. The third set was back-and-forth with the Blazers trailing at 17-19. The Blazers evened the score at 21-21 with a kill from Luis Martinez before Elms went on a 4-1 run to close out the set 25-21. 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Mercado had a match-high 18 kills while Martinez and De Jesus added 12 and 8 respectively. 

Antonio Delgado Rolon led all players with 12 digs with Collin Liedke adding 9 and Martinez adding 7. 

Delgado Rolon led the Blazer offense to a .263 hitting percentage with 33 assists.

The Blazers are back on the road Saturday (3/26) in a GNAC tri-match vs. host Emmanuel and Regis at 12pm and 2pm.
