Blazers Fall to Gulls at Home

CHICOPEE, MA: The Elms College men's volleyball team fell to Endicott College tonight, 1-3.

SCORES: Elms 1 | Endicott 3 (25-23, 21-25, 23-25, 26-28)

RECORDS: Elms (6-7, 3-2 GNAC) Endicott (6-3, 0-0 NECC)

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

The first set was close as the teams saw themselves tied 15-15 on a Gull service error. The teams traded points until the Blazers saw themselves up 2 on a pair of Endicott errors. A kill from Luis Martinez gave the Blazers set point at 24-21, before Endicott battled within one. The Blazers sealed the set with a kill from Pedro De Jesus, 25-23. 

The second set saw the Blazers down early 10-15. Despite a late effort by the Blazers and a trio of kills from De Jesus and Moose Perry, the Blazers dropped the set 21-25. 

The Blazers saw themselves down 6 in the third at 9-15. A string of Gull errors and a kill from Martinez brought the Blazers within one at 20-21. The Blazers fought off 4 set-points thanks to a pair of kills from De Jesus and Antonio Delgado Rolon that pushed the Blazers to 23-24. An Endicott block ended the set 23-25 for Elms as Endicott went up 2-1 in the match.

The fourth set began with back-and-forth action before the Blazers got down 14-17. A 6-1 Blazer run- capped by a kill from Delgado Rolon and an ace from Carlos Mercado- put the Blazers up 20-18. An ace from Perry and a Gull error gave the Blazers set point at 24-21. The Gulls would not go quietly and fought off 3 set points to tie the game 24-24. Kills from De Jesus and Mercado gave the Blazers two more extra point advantages before the Blazers fell 26-28. Elms dropped the match 1-3. 

 

INSIDE THE NUMBERS:

Martinez led the Blazers with 11 kills while De Jesus and Delgado Rolon chipped in 9 a piece and Perry added 7. 

Liedke led the Blazers with 11 digs while De Jesus and Martinez added 9 and 6 respectively.

The Blazers are back at home Saturday (2/26) for a tri-match vs. Lasell and Elizabethtown at 1pm and 5pm.
