Blazers Drop Two GNAC Match-Ups on the Road

NEWTON, MA– The Elms College men's volleyball team dropped two GNAC matchups today vs. #5 Wentworth (1-3) and Lasell (0-3). 

THE BASICS:

SCORE: Elms 1 | Wentworth 3 (17-25, 25-18, 15-25, 18-25)  

Elms 0 | Lasell 3 (20-25, 19-25, 12-25)

RECORDS: Elms (6-6, 3-2 GNAC) Wentworth (11-2, 4-1 GNAC) Lasell (8-5, 4-0 GNAC)

HOW IT HAPPENED: 

Match 1: The Blazers came out slow and saw themselves in a 7 point deficit at 10-17 in the first set. Elms was able to gather some momentum at the end of the set before falling 17-25. A tight start to the second set saw the teams even at 6-6 before the Blazers were able to pull away and create a 7 point lead at 15-8. A late push by the Leopards brought them within 3, but the Blazers were able to close out the set 25-18. The Blazers jumped out to an early lead in the third before the Leopards tied the game at 8-8. The Blazers saw themselves down by 2 at 13-15 and would fall to a 2-10 run before dropping the set 15-25. The fourth set began with back-and-forth action including 10 ties; the last one at 17-17. A string of Leopard kills sealed the set and and match as the Blazers fell 18-25. Elms dropped the match 1-3. 

Match 2: The Blazers saw themselves down 12 in the first set at 5-17. The Blazers gained some momentum as they put together a 12-5 run and came within 4 at 18-22. Despite a late ace, the Blazers fell 20-25. The second set began with back-and-forth action that saw the teams tied 7-7. The Blazers saw themselves down 1 at 15-16, before a 4-9 run in favor of the Lasers sealed the set 19-25. The Laser took a quick lead in the third before the Blazers were able to string together some kills of their own. Their mid-set 7 point deficit was too much for the Blazers to overcome before falling 12-25. Elms dropped the match 0-3.

Match 1: Antonio Delgado Rolon led all Blazers with 8 kills, 4 service aces, and 7 digs. Luis Martinez and Pedro De Jesus added 8 and 6 kills respectively.

7 Blazers contributed and set a new team record of 17 aces in a four set match. 

 

Match 2: Delgado Rolon led the Blazers with 8 kills while Martinez and Carlos Mercado added 5 kills a piece and Moose Perry added 4. 

Collin Liedke led all players with 17 digs. Delgado Rolon added 5. 

Mercado led the Blazers with 3 service aces while De Jesus added 2 and Perry one.
