Blazers Pick Up Win in Straight Sets vs. Sage
CHICOPEE, MA– The Elms College men's volleyball team picked up a non-conference win tonight vs. Sage, 3-0.
THE BASICS:
SCORE: Elms 3 | Sage 0 (25-6, 25-17, 25-20)
RECORDS: Elms (6-4, 3-0 GNAC) Sage (3-8, 0-0 NECC)
HOW IT HAPPENED: The Blazers jumped out to an early 14-4 lead in the first set following a service run from Luis Martinez that featured 6 back-to-back service aces. A pair of kills from Axelmanuel Figueroa Acevedo and Cecil Villa along with an ace from Antonio Delgado Rolon put the Blazers up 19-4. The Blazers closed out on a 6-2 run with a Villa kill to end the set 25-6.
The second set remained close until a pair of kills from Martinez and Moose Perry put the Blazers up 9-6; forcing a Sage timeout. A pair of kills from Delgado Rolon put the Blazers up 19-12 before the Blazers went closed out the set on a Gator service error. Elms won the set 25-17.
The third set saw the Blazers down 6-11, before a pair of service aces from Carlos Mercado tied the teams 12-12. A par of Martinez aces put the Blazers up 21-15, before a Mercado kill closed the set and match 25-20. Elms won 3-0.
INSIDE THE NUMBERS:
Martinez led the all players with 11 kills and 9 aces and added 5 digs. Mercado chipped in 6 kills and Delgado Rolon added 7.
Delgado Rolon led all players with 7 digs while Villa and Mercado added 5 digs a piece.
Mercado led the Blazer offense with 25 assists as the Blazers hit a match-high .591 in the second set and .421 for the match.

The Blazers are back on the road in GNAC action Saturday, 2/19, at Lasell for a conference tri-match with Wentworth at 1pm and 3pm.
